Rhythm MusicMaracatu de Baque Virado’s visceral groove makes everyone want to move. From the throbbing punctuation of the syncopated bass drum (alfaia) riffs to the intoxicating swing of the snare drums (caixa), the deceptively simple parts force players to confront their understanding of music and rhythm. Known as the the music of the “turned beat”, this rural folk music will draw you in and keep you wanting more. This workshop covers the basic parts of the most common Baque (rhythm).
